Sankofa Leadership Training Program
1. Self-Assessment: Reflecting on Past Leadership Issues
Objective: Encourage participants to critically analyse past leadership experiences, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth.
Key Activities:
Guided reflection on past leadership decisions.
Case studies of historical African leadership models and their relevance today.
Writing a personal leadership timeline (highlighting key decisions and lessons learned).
Group discussions on leadership failures and successes, connecting them to Sankofa's concept of looking back to move forward.
2. Outcome Assessment: Analysing the Impact
Objective: Evaluate the consequences of past leadership approaches and identify trends in decision-making.
Key Activities:
SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis of personal and organisational leadership experiences.
Identifying patterns in leadership mistakes (e.g., lack of communication, poor delegation, failure to adapt).
Storytelling and knowledge-sharing sessions where leaders exchange insights on lessons learned from past actions.
3. Action Plan: Implementing Change
Objective: Develop a structured action plan to improve leadership effectiveness based on assessment outcomes.
Key Activities:
Setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) for leadership improvement.
Creating a personal or organisational Sankofa Pledge, committing to new leadership behaviours.
Designing a Leadership Growth Map, with milestones for improvement.
Strategy sessions on how to integrate traditional African leadership wisdom with modern governance and management.
4. Peer Assessment: Tracking Progress
Objective: Use peer accountability to ensure continuous leadership development.
Key Activities:
Leadership Circles: Regular peer check-ins to discuss progress and challenges.
360° Feedback Sessions: Constructive reviews from peers, subordinates, and mentors.
Mentorship Pairing: Pairing participants with experienced leaders for guidance.
Community Impact Projects: Participants apply lessons by leading initiatives and reporting outcomes to their peers.
